Much has been said about breakfast being the most important meal of the day. But when you’re at Ally’s All-Day Breakfast Place, a quaint, well, all-day breakfast place on Malingap Street in Quezon City, breakfast isn’t just important; it’s the star. And this place takes its responsibility seriously. We thank them for that.

Bright and cheery as morning sunshine–evidenced by vibrant hues of orange and yellow splashed on its walls and a beaming sun hanging from the ceiling–Ally’s takes your usual pancakes and sunny-side-up eggs and ups the ante. You know when they say you shouldn’t eat too much breakfast? That doesn’t apply here. Surrounded by a white picket fence, a small alfresco area greets you a few feet from the road. Inside the air-conditioned establishment, the intimate place can seat perhaps 15 people.
There’s a poster on the glass wall asking, ‘What Diet?’ While this, perhaps, is a foreshadowing of the things to come, ‘What Diet’ (P450) is also the name of one of Ally’s best-selling items. It’s a beautiful triumvirate composed of a Hungarian sausage and egg meal, a triple chocolate waffle, and bottomless iced tea.
On your first plate will be two tender Hungarian sausages, crispy bacon strips, an egg cooked according to your preference, a side of deep fried French fries, a cup of steaming white rice topped with fried garlic bits, and some fresh tomato salsa. If only our moms could see us. They’d be so proud that we’re eating a well-rounded breakfast.
Once you’ve managed to inhale your recommended protein intake for the day in a single plate, you can move on to dessert: a triple chocolate waffle composed of a chocolate waffle base, sprinkled with chocolate chips, drizzled with chocolate syrup, and topped with three scoops of chocolate ice cream. Served warm, the cold ice cream offers a delightful contrast to the warm waffle. The chocolate chips, meanwhile, add some texture-and chocolate. We like chocolate. Then wash it all down with a bottomless iced tea.
For those with a smaller appetite, try When JM Is Starving (P350). It has one Hungarian sausage, bacon strips, a classic waffle, French fries, rice, tomato salsa, and bottomless iced tea.
If you’re into a different kind of sausage, try Ally’s Tuguegarao Longganisa (P150) composed of pork sausage, garlic rice, 2 eggs, and a side of tomato salsa. The longganisa has a pungent garlic aroma and a peppery bite. With some slightly burned edges dipped in vinegar, you’ve got a good breakfast right there. For a hungry caveman, try the Lala Longanisa (P350) composed of Vigan Longganisa and Tuguegarao Longganisa, bacon strips, a classic waffle, French Fries, breakfast rice, tomato salsa, and bottomless iced tea.
What’s breakfast without an egg omelette. Ally’s Classic Spanish Omelette (P120) is a light mixture of folded eggs stuffed with white onions, ham, potatoes, topped with a tomato salsa and drizzled with mayonnaise. It’s then served with some toast. The Cheesy Bacon Tomato Omelette (P130), meanwhile, has bacon and cheese, tomatoes, bell peppers, and white onions, served with some toast.
And then come the pancakes. At Ally’s, they offer a choice of signature pancakes such as the Banana Peanut Butter (P210), a three-layered golden pancake with sliced bananas, toasted walnuts, drizzled with caramel syrup, and topped with three scoops of vanilla ice cream. There’s also Crunchy Chocolate (P210), a three-layered brown pancake lathered with nuts, Nutella spread, and drizzled with chocolate syrup.
If you are not into waffles or pancakes try something different such as their pancrepes (P150) which come in many varieties such as Toblerone, Crunch, Kitkat and Cadburry.
Ally’s also offers Do-It-Yourself Pancakes and Waffles. Instructions: pick your base (pancake or waffle), choose a flavor, add some toppings, then choose some add-ons and your syrup. They then give you the option to name your concoction which other customers can order.
The Verdict
If you’re going to eat one meal today, make it breakfast. And if you’re going to eat breakfast, make sure it’s at Ally’s. Offering unpretentious, filling, and flavorful comfort food, the place has a casual dining experience, and with affordable price points.’What Diet?’ is the meal to order. Can’t finish it on your own? A friend will gladly help you out. Or try the Classic Spanish Omelette or the Cheesy Bacon Tomato Omelette–cheese and bacon lovers would surely love it. Now that’s a breakfast that would make even your mom proud. -#EatsNowOrNever
